Serological surveillance in wildlife

Sero-surveillance is an important tool in infectious disease prevention and control and complements event-based clinical surveillance. It enables detection of exposure circulating and (re-)emerging pathogens in animal reservoirs. Collecting serum from wildlife is difficult because wild animals are rarely handled alive. Having a validated alternative to serum sampling of deceased animals by using other antibody-containing body fluids would considerably contribute to surveillance in wildlife.
