Coronavirus RNA synthesis, recombination and encapsidation studied in the context of the infected cell

The 2002 SARS outbreak, 2012 MERS outbreak and the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak have identified coronoviruses as zoonotic threat. This project aims to further our understanding of coronavirus replication. This project is a wide colloboration, which combines biophysics, super resolution microscopy and molecular virology to elucidate the key determinants that control RNA synthesis and RNA condensation of coronaviruses. In this PhD specifically, RNA synthesis, mRNA translation and gRNA packaging will be studied in time and space with reverse genetic techniques and confocal microscopy.
